ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: Warm-up matches schedule announced
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is scheduled to begin from February 14, 2015 and the final match is lined up to be played on March 29, 2015. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has already announced the schedule for the ICC World Cup 2015. The first match of the World Cup will be played between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. The World Cup 2015 will be played between 14 teams and over 14 venues across Australia and New Zealand. The 14 teams participating in the World Cup have been divided into two groups — Pool A and Pool B. Pool A consists of England, Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Scotland. Whereas, Pool B consists of India, Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Ireland and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, before the world cup, there will be few warm-up matches as well as qualifying matches been played. The 14 February, 2015 tournament opener between New Zealand and Sri Lanka will start at 1100 New Zealand Standard Time (NZT), while Australia will square-off against England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on the same day with the first ball to be bowled at 1430 Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT). On December 2, 2015 the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the complete schedule of the warm-up matches including match timings of ICC World Cup 2015. A total of 14 non-One-Day International (ODI) warm-up matches will be played across Adelaide, Christchurch, Melbourne and Sydney from February 8-13. A schedule was posted here
On the Second day, four matches will be played between South Africa and Sri Lanka at Hagley Oval, Christchurch and co-host New Zealand and Zimbabwe going head to head at Bert Sutcliffe Oval. At Sydney Cricket ground, England will face West Indies and Blacktown will host the Asian clash between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
On Tuesday, February 10, day third of the warm-up matches three qualifiers will be in action. European rivals Ireland and Scotland will lock horns at Blacktown in Sydney. Whereas, neighbors India and Afghanistan will prepare for the tournament to be held at the Adelaide Oval.
Eight sides will feature on Wednesday, 11 February. New Zealand will meet South Africa at Hagley Oval, and Sri Lanka will take on Zimbabwe at Bert Sutcliffe Oval (both matches will be held in Christchurch). The 1992 World Cup finalists, England and Pakistan will test each other at the Sydney Cricket Ground and Australia will play with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The public will be greeting to attend warm up matches, which will be ticketed but free of charge. The details for obtaining tickets will be announced in due course. It should be noted that warm-up matches are not official ODIs and operate under slightly different rules with up to 15 players able to be used throughout the game with not more than 11 players may field at any one time. The spectator experience will not be the same standard as at normal ODI matches.
