Unfortunately Uttama Villain could not release on its very first day i.e 1st May 2015 in India, Friday due to financial disputes between makers and financiers of the films. The morning shows were cancelled across the Tamil Nadu. The film is released on approx. 1200 screens worldwide with the third day occupancy estimated at about 70%. The film is however facing competition from other previously released tamil movies like OK Kanmani and Kanchana 2.
