Animals You Probably Didn’t Know Were Venomous

Education Sports

When we think of venomous animals, snakes, scorpions and spiders come to mind. But NCERT Solutions For Class 12 doesn’t tell you about these inconspicuous animals capable of killing you just by mere touch. Here are 3 animals you definitely don’t want to mess with.

Cone Snail

This sea snail is found in warm, tropical seas worldwide. Being a predatory snail, it has developed a very powerful venom, which it injects into its prey through a harpoon like tooth in its body. Its venom is so powerful that it can paralyse a fish instantly. Smaller species pose no risk to humans, but larger species, especially the ones that hunt fish pose a threat. Some are occasionally a threat and are even fatal to humans. The geographic cone snail, is also called the “Cigarette snail” because if you get stung by one, you have only enough time to smoke a cigarette before you die.

Blue Ringed Octopus

This species of octopus is found in the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. As the name suggests, this creature has small, bright blue rings that cover its entire body. It is about the size of a small ball, but the venom that it delivers is so potent that it can kill 26 adult men in a few minutes. And if you are unfortunate enough to get stung by one, you will remain fully aware of your surroundings, but you will be completely paralysed, unable to breathe. And did we mention that there’s no anti-venom?

Australian Box Jellyfish

Found in warm coastal waters around the world, this species of jellyfish is known to be one of the most venomous animals ever. If you are unlucky enough to brush your legs past it when swimming, you are in for a world of hurt. It’s venom is excruciatingly painful and extremely potent. Your heart stops beating and you go into shock. Either way, you die drowning or by heart failure. But if you somehow survive this ordeal, you will experience extreme pain for weeks and significant scarring around the area where the jellyfish’s tentacles meet.
