Virat Kohli May Play Bangladesh Test, while Skip ODI
The selection committee is on work to strike a balance of fringe players and star players at Test and ODIs. If the Sandeep Patil led selector’s committee follows the IPL 8 performances , Sandeep Sharma, Pawan Negi, Yuzvendra Chahhal, Shreyas Iyer and Mayank are likely to be added to the squad for Bangaladesh. However, the squad would be finally a combination of both the players as Bangaldesh is currently at its fine ODI form with just having beaten Pakistan in the series played recently. With Bangladesh in high form, it is less likely for the selection committee to bank just on the talent emerging players.
Hence, we hear Virat Kohli will be playing at ODI but will be leaving off the test. Moreover, Dhoni is likely to given rest. Suresh Raina is expected to brought in as stand-in ODI skipper which will reiterate his last year’s role. During last year, India had opted for the same direction of roping in fringe but talented players for the ODIs.
India will be touring Bangladesh for a Test and a three match ODI series beginning from June 7th to 24th. Test will be played in Fatullah between 10th 14 June while the following three ODIs will be played in Mirpur between 18th to 24th June 2015.
With Virat Kohli likely to be confirmed for Test, things seem to be more settled on Test side while squad for series is yet to be taken off. Mohammad Shami’s presence in upcoming Banngladesh Series and ODIs is still in dark after he was not allowed to play for IPL due to his knee injury.
Who may play at Bangladesh Test-ODIs
As for the pacers, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav are the most probable names. There will be some more new players who will be getting opportunity to tour the international cricket plays as the star players are most probably given rest either for ODI or Test. Harbhjan is one of the seasoned player who recently thundered at IPL 8 with Mumbai Indians is still not known for his inclusion in the Bangladesh tour.
While R Ashwin, the off-spinner have large chances to hold his place in the series and test India team, Karn Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja are likely to be left out.
Batting line is more settled with possible players like Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajjinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Murili Vijay, Virat Kohli (for Test) and K L Rahul.
The only wicketkeeper to be taken along is Wriddhiman Saha.
India’s cricketing skill is quite in-depth as it was well showcased during IPL 8 and leaving some star players to rest will not make adverse impact on the team’s performance at the upcoming Test and ODIs at Bangladesh. While player rotations are healthy for overall team standing, whether it is due to importance of some event over other or to give rest to some players. It would also mean a glorious chance for emerging players like Aaron, Rayudu, Rasool, Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer.
